Jakarta, September 14, 2026 President Prabowo Subianto officially removed Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa from his position as Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia. To replace him, the President swore in Suahasil Nazara, who previously served as Deputy Minister of Finance, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday afternoon.
Legal Basis for Replacement
This change was established by Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 97P of 2026 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of the Minister of Finance of the Red and White Cabinet for the Remaining Term of the 2024–2029 Term. During the swearing-in ceremony, Suahasil took the oath of office, which was administered directly by President Prabowo, and subsequently signed the minutes of the swearing-in ceremony, which was also witnessed by the President.
A Brief Chronology
This change took place relatively quickly and came as a surprise to many. Prior to the inauguration, Purbaya was still recorded as attending a joint working meeting with Committee IV of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia to discuss the Draft Law on the State Budget. In the middle of the session, Purbaya’s agenda reportedly came to a halt following a call from the Presidential Palace.
Meanwhile, Suahasil Nazara reportedly arrived at the Presidential Palace complex on Monday afternoon. When asked by reporters about the reason for his visit, he simply replied that he had “received a call” from the Palace.

Suahasil Nazara was born in Jakarta on November 23, 1970, and earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Indonesia in 1994.
